The most difficult part of the date is the one where there is still the potential for it to happen – the set-up. Most men mix up and misread the signals women send them, and the end result resembles something like a fish floundering on a plank. What makes or busts a date set-up? If you have succeeded in the initial task of getting the woman’s number, and are running the possibility of setting a date on your mind, don’t hesitate; she’s into you to some extent, and you have to build the momentum up from the initial effort. The problem with most men is that they resort to kamikaze tactics when engaging the woman for the first date. Women, on the other hand, are stealth bombers which wait for the ideal conditions to strike, very much unlike the crash-and-burn technique which men employ. The best way to score a date with a woman is to build for anticipation.

While men have on-off positions which can be switched at will, women are knobs which can be slowly turned on towards a climax. So if you have the woman's number and your prospects for a date appears promising, take your time with it and let an entire week pass by before calling her up. If your strategy is to find the nearest window of opportunity for a date, now matter how small it is, then you’re starting your pace on the wrong foot. Women can keep their cool when the situation calls for it, and they can linger around, waiting for a man to make his next move (and it'd better be good). So don’t worry if you’ll lose the jolt if you call her after a week, because the opposite is true. The initial spark will catch fire, and it’s up to you to provide the kindling.

If the rare occasion happens that the woman initiates the opportunity for a date by leaving a message on your phone, you may have to tweak the strategy a bit. In such a case the momentum has gained dramatically, and delaying the response may hurt your chances rather than ensure them. It is best to wait for a day or two before calling her back. And keep it short; engage in brief small talk, then get right down to business. There's no bigger turn-off than having a man languish with a woman for thirty minutes on the phone, with absolutely nothing to talk about in the first place.
